The Situation
Jo contacted Driving Miss Daisy looking for support to help her elderly parents enjoy a day out together. Both parents were experiencing physical and mental challenges and Jo knew from experience that preparing to leave the house could be stressful and overwhelming, particularly for her father, who was adjusting to using a wheelchair and no longer being able to drive.
While the family hoped the outing would be positive, there were understandable concerns around anxiety, confidence and whether the experience would be too much.
Our Approach
From the first enquiry via the Driving Miss Daisy website, the focus was on reassurance, clear communication and making the process as simple and stress-free as possible.
On the day, companion drivers Martin and Glyn supported Jo’s parents with calm, upbeat professionalism. They allowed plenty of time, offered gentle guidance and ensured both parents felt safe, respected and in control throughout the journey. The emphasis was not just on transport, but on companionship, dignity and emotional reassurance.
The Outcome
Despite a challenging start to the day, the outing was a success.
Jo shared that her mum was “absolutely thrilled” and her dad described the experience as “very nice”. The calm, friendly approach helped ease anxiety and made the experience feel manageable and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Importantly, the trip showed that, even though getting out can be difficult, the emotional and social benefits made it worthwhile. Jo noted how valuable it was to see her parents enjoying themselves, despite the challenges they face.

I very much appreciated your calm but upbeat demeanour, and I’m extremely grateful that you do what you do and with such kind consideration for everyone involved. From when I first contacted you via the website, you made the whole process very easy and stress-free.”
Looking Ahead
While regular outings may not always be possible due to health and confidence challenges, Jo shared that she would love to plan another trip in the spring if her father’s health remains stable. Knowing there is a trusted, flexible and compassionate service available has given the family confidence to plan ahead.
